MARWOOD NEWS -A sneak peak

Marwood Studio Visit

Photographer, Matthew Walder came to visit the Marwood studio and took some behind the scenes shots to capture some of the processes that go on behind closed doors. This is the first part in a series and he will continue to document the studio in more depth over the coming months and years.
Marwood started four years ago from humble beginnings in an artist studio in Dalston, London. Out of a crowded corner in that studio began sketches, swatches and ideas for the first few collections. After two years we had certainly outgrown the space, with towering boxes looming overhead and production being packed in a storage unit in North London… it was time for a change. So, two years ago we changed our set-up and moved the design studio combined with warehouse to a workshop in Devon, on the outskirts of Dartmoor. It gives us breathing space – headspace for creativity – as well as practical space for boxes and shipping. Our presence in London remains with an office off Hoxton Square where our founder Becky meets press and buyers and stays connected with the city. Ozi runs our London press office and we often welcome customers to pop in and see products up close or work on bespoke projects – particularly weddings. S/S’14: Behind The Collection

Here are some snapshots of the Marwood studio last summer. Swatches of woven silks (made in Suffolk, UK) and colour inspirations as well as the ink drawings that went on to become silk jacquards due to the skilled suffolk makers. Finally, the source behind the colour palette caught our interest in crisp, unbroken, graphic patterns in tile forms among the ruins and decay of Icelandic farm houses.

S/S ’14 Lookbook – Behind the Scenes

The current Spring / Summer ’14 collection was initially launched to press and buyers last summer at London Collections: Men. Ready for the launch we shot the lookbook in an incredible location in Brockley, South London. It wasn’t an official location so even more remarkable that it had so much to offer… genuine features, true time-worn familiarity, a family history; all on theme with the original inspiration of deserted Icelandic farmhouses, captured by photographer Orri Johnnson. Terry, the owner, was about to sell his home and he was kind enough to let us record the nooks and crannies on film, by art/ portrait photographer Kate Peters. You can see the lookbook images in ‘Collections’ or by clicking here.
